So You Want to be a Firefighter?

Welcome to the Firefighter Career website!  If you are thinking about or are actively pursuing a Firefighter career, you have come to the right place!

Let's Get Started

This website provides you with the eligibility information for the seven major Fire Departments/Jurisdictions (FD’s) in the Greater Sacramento County and surrounding area.

We encourage you to review the information presented throughout the website to see if a firefighter career is the right choice for you.  It bears mentioning at the onset of your review that virtually all the FD’s require extensive pre-employment EMT and Paramedic training.*

The website lists the expected pre-employment non-fire related personal qualifications, the necessary experience and certifications, and the resources available to attain the latter.

One will also find a list of additional qualifications which, while not usually required, will help you improve your chances for success.

Are You A Veteran?

The Fire Departments in the Greater Sacramento Area are motivated to hire Veterans.  See why here.

______________________

*  Note:  There are Firefighter related careers in the Sacramento region that have other hiring requirements not related to EMT or Paramedic training.  Examples include the Fire Marshal’s OfficeSac Regional Fire/EMS Communications Center, FD administrative positions, etc.
